5 Great Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website

  1. Share on Social Media

If you have a large social media following, this is the easiest way to get traffic from places like Facebook and Twitter to your website.  Users will see your post and if they are interested in the article, they will click over to your website.

If you do not have a large social media following, there are other ways to get the word out.  You can try to create viral content, content that is especially engaging and relevant so that it will be shared many times, creating an exponential audience.  Alternatively, you can pay to promote your post.  For small amounts of money you can reach thousands of a targeted audience, hopefully becoming engaged with your content and eventually ending up on your website.

  1. Google Adwords

This is another form of paid advertising, but it is another great way to drive a targeted audience to your website.  It works by selecting the keywords and search terms that you think potential customers of yours will be interested in, and bidding on the cost per click that the advertisement receives.  The most cost effective strategy here is usually to go with a keyword that his highly relevant to your product, yet has a high search volume and relatively low cost per click.

  1. Get Found Through Organic Search

This is one of the more difficult ways if you are just getting started to drive traffic, but if you can manage to get a good flow of users through organic search, you are essentially getting free customers.  Organic search means that users typed in keywords into their search engine, and Google or another search engine ranked you high enough for that keyword that the user clicked on your website.

There are many factors that influence your rankings in the search results, but there are ways to optimize your website for search engines.

  1. Find Influencers

Depending on your experience and time you’ve put into your website, you may have a lot of authority in your industry, or you may have very little.  Influencers are established in their industry, and have a large following on their websites or social media.  They are called influencers for obvious reasons, when they say something, a lot of people listen.  If you can get an influencer to promote your product or website to a relevant audience, you will very likely see a large amount of sales or at least traffic.

There are different ways you can get influencers to promote your website, you can either have a personal relationship where they’re willing to help you out, or maybe they just love your product so much that they’ll promote for free.  Other than that, you can set up affiliate links to try to convince them to promote.  They will get a portion of every sale they make through that link, so it is an incentive for them to sell as much as possible.  Sometimes you can also pay a flat rate for their promotion, like an advertisement.

  1. Guest Post

This is similar to influencers, but there are many bloggers on the internet and they are all trying to get their website as much traffic as possible.  When you write a guest post, it can be beneficial to both parties involved.  As the person writing the guest post, you can write an article that might include a soft promotion of your article and definitely some links back to your website, so anyone reading the article on the other website will be directed back to your website.  As the owner of the other website, you are getting free content to put on your website, and it may be from someone with different expertise than your own.

Guest posting is a great way to build relationships with other bloggers, and is something I recommend doing.  An added bonus for guest posts is that when you link to your website from another, it also helps your authority with Google and other search engines, so you have a higher chance of ranking higher in organic search.

These are just five ways to drive traffic to your website, but there are countless ways.  Website traffic is one of the most important aspects of any online business, and no matter how good your product is, you won’t sell anything if you can’t get the word out.
